Antonee Robinson says his US side can WIN the World Cup in Qatar and reminds teammates of England’s lackluster Nations League form this year – where they lost 4-0 to HUNGARY – to inspire them for crucial Group B showdown
If any member of the USMNT group needs extra inspiration ahead of Friday’s game against England, they should talk to Antonee Robinson.
The Fulham defender has turned up the heat on the eve of his US team’s World Cup clash with England, telling them that not only can they deliver a shock against Gareth Southgate’s team, but they can also play the entire tournament in Qatar to win.
‘Yes. Everyone in our team believes we can beat any team on our day, so why not think we can come out of this group and win every knockout match?’ Robinson told The times.
Antonee Robinson is confident for the US vs England World Cup match
He believes his team is good enough to beat England and win the World Cup
But first the US needs a result against England. Unsurprisingly, the defender who plays club football for Fulham in the English Premier League is confident.
Robinson’s inspiration, he says, comes from England’s poor run of form in Europe’s Nations League this year, where they failed to win in six games.
In addition, England could not beat Italy in two matches and lost to Hungary twice – in one match they were thrashed 4-0. Both Hungary and Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup.
Robinson said, “We are definitely an underdog. Our group is pretty tough, but we have to think we can keep going and we have to want it more than anyone else.
‘I remember a headline in one of the English newspapers the day after: ‘England have the easiest group’ and the one thing that will set us and Wales on fire. Do you think you just come to win? It never goes that way.
England had a miserable time in the Nations League, even losing 4-0 to Hungary this year
But they looked ominous in their first World Cup match, beating Iran 6-2 in Qatar
“You saw what happened in the Nations League, England lost to teams they thought they could beat.”
Robinson won his 30th international match for the US on Monday in a 1-1 draw against Wales in Group B.
England, meanwhile, appeared to have regained their top form with an impressive 6-2 defeat to Iran.
