The biggest moment of a wild Fiesta Bowl between TCU and Michigan wasn’t on the field for Robert Griffin III.

During the third quarter of the College Football Playoff semifinal, Griffin received news that his wife, Estonian heptathlete Greta Griffin, went into labor live on air while working as part of ESPN’s “Field Pass with The Pat McAfee Show reporting.

The former NFL quarterback’s co-hosts were initially confused as to why he was on the phone until he hung up and told them, “Sorry guys, I have to go. My wife is going into labor.” Griffin then hugged them and ran off the field.

He would later post the entire exchange on Twitter:

The Griffins announced in July that Greta was pregnant with their third child, a girl (Robert has a child from a previous marriage).

Since his last NFL season in 2021, Griffin has worked as a college football player and NFL analyst for ESPN. He joined Pat McAfee, AJ Hawk, Taylor Lewan and AQ Shipley on ESPN2 for the Fiesta Bowl as part of the network’s megacast College Football Playoff.
