A mum living on one of the Gold Coast’s swankiest streets has called for the public’s help in identifying a serial ‘spitter’.

The woman, who resides on Monaco’s posh street in Broadbeach Waters, posted a video and photos to a Facebook community group in a bid to catch the alleged spitter.

The video shows a cyclist dressed in lycra passing his car and leaning over to spit on it.

She claims the mystery man commits the despicable act almost daily and only targets her car.

“He has been spitting on our car every morning he has passed on rue de Monaco for the past 10 months and we don’t know why,” she wrote.

“It’s a disgusting thing to do, especially when I have to wash him before taking my two young children to school to make sure they don’t touch his saliva.

“As we now have a lot of video footage we have referred it to the police as it has now become harassment and damage to personal property.

“Please help us try to end this disgusting and cowardly behavior.”

In some cases in Queensland, spitting may be considered a simple assault as long as the victim had reason to fear for their safety and the act was done with the intent to intimidate them.

Spitting can also be considered a breach of public order, especially if it takes place near a school or other specified place.

For spitting to be considered a crime, it generally must be done in an aggressive manner and directed at a person or property.

A Broadbeach Police spokesman said he was unsure whether the matter was being investigated.

“Anyway,” he said.

A nearby resident who commented on the woman’s post suggested the cyclist might have a vendetta against her.

“You probably had a near miss with him at some point, but that still doesn’t excuse the behavior.” We all make mistakes,” he said.

Many others called the act ‘rude’ and ‘disgusting’.

‘What’s wrong with people?’ commented another woman.

Monaco Street, located on the Nerang River just south of Surfers Paradise, is considered one of the poshest streets on the Gold Coast and is dotted with a string of luxury mega-mansions.

A new buying record was set in the area in 2021 when a home sold for $14.5 million.
