‘They’re not even resorts’: Biden WHISPERS as he pledges to crack down on surprise hotel fees and airlines charging families $50 to sit together

  • President Joe Biden called on Congress to pass his Junk Fee Prevention Act
  • He said he wanted to ban surprise fees charged by hotels as ‘resort fees’
  • “Americans are tired of being played for suckers,” he said in his speech on Tuesday.

President Joe Biden used his State of the Union address on Tuesday night to highlight his war on junk fees — hidden fees used by businesses to squeeze more money from consumers.

It has been one of his most populist pushes, putting him on the same side as families struggling to make ends meet.

“I know how unfair it is when a company overcharges you and gets away with it,” he said. ‘No more.

“We wrote a bill to stop all this. This is called the “Unwanted Charges Prevention Act”.

“We will ban surprise ‘resort fees’ that hotels will add to your bill. These fees can cost you up to $90 per night at hotels that aren’t even resorts.

The line – basically a dad joke – had the chamber laughing.

“The idea that cable internet and cell phone companies can charge you 200 or more if you decide to switch to another provider…give me a break.

“We can stop service charges on concert and sporting event tickets and require companies to disclose all charges up front.

“I will prohibit airlines from charging a family $50 round trip just to be able to sit together.

“Baggage fees are bad enough. Airlines cannot treat your child as baggage.

“Americans are tired of being played for suckers.”

Biden was addressing a joint session of Congress for the third time as president, in what many expect to provide a springboard for his 2024 run.

It was the first time he had done so with a Republican president sitting behind his shoulder, and he called on the GOP to put him to work to “finish the job” of rebuilding the economy.

He listed his accomplishments along with unfurnished tasks, as he sought to portray a country radically different from the pandemic-ridden America he took on two years ago.

“I will prohibit airlines from charging a family $50 round trip just to be able to sit together,” Biden said during his annual State of the Union address.

“We can stop service charges on tickets to concerts and sporting events and require companies to disclose all charges up front,” Biden said.

“America’s story is a story of progress and resilience. Of always moving forward. Of never giving up. A story unique among all nations,” he said.

“We are the only country that has come out of every crisis stronger than when we entered it. We are still doing that.

But partisan divisions were clearly displayed.

Democrats — including Vice President Kamala Harris — rose to their feet as Biden slapped his applause.

Republicans have occasionally called him out and shouted “liar” when he said they planned to abolish Social Security and Medicare.

Then they accused him of using his position to deliver a campaign speech.

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said, “Biden has doubled down on his disastrous and polarizing agenda that left working families behind.

“Instead of taking responsibility for the multiple crises he and the Democrats created, Biden blamed everyone but himself for historic inflation, skyrocketing crime and a porous southern border. Biden has once again proven himself to be the chief divider.
